RIPPER STREET Cast Photo

It’s a little old, but Collider had a pretty good interview recently with Adam and Jerome Flynn about various aspects of Ripper Street. Apple readers will want to check the whole thing out, but, in this excerpt, Adam lays out his own theory about how he ended up on the Reid team.

I think we had this fantasy that maybe Jackson had been thrown in a holding cell one night and drunkenly starting diagnosing people in the room. They picked him up and, without meaning to, he started helping them out. Jackson must have gotten Reid’s attention, some sort of weird way. Because he’s boastful and a bit egotistical, he probably started showing off and it came to bite him in the ass. He’s dragged, kicking and screaming, into this little partnership. He’s a very reluctant helper.

Meet Homer Jackson

Friday, January 18th, 2013

Today, we’re gonna run down Adam’s Ripper Street character, aka the primary reason we Applenauts are watching Ripper Street.

Captain Homer Jackson

An American, a one-time Pinkerton detective, and a U.S. army surgeon, Captain Homer Jackson is an expert in the world of early forensics. Enlisted by Reid for his unique skills on the autopsy slab, he is a free spirit, both untrustworthy and brilliant by equal measure. But his thirst for vice — including women, booze and gambling — leaves him hated by Drake and distrusted by the rest of the police fraternity.

Jackson has his secrets, too. On the run from an ‘incident’ in America, he and brothel-keeper, Long Susan, have sought out the East End precisely for its chaos and lawlessness. Reid’s attachment to Jackson — and the friendship the two like-minded men inevitably foster -– will eventually compromise this need for secrecy. — from BBC America

In a very thorough interview over at CultBox, Adam describes Jackson as “a bit of a cowboy; he’s bit of a rogue but he’s also a little bit of Albert Schweitzer, you know what I mean. He’s a healer. He’s a fighter. It sounds absurd, the treatment of the character, with the writing and wardrobe and everything that happens makes him an actor’s dream to play.

“Who wouldn’t be drawn to playing Jackson? If you were to have male actors of a certain age write down their dream role they’d like to play, it would probably be Homer Jackson.”

Not Coming to a Theater Near You … Yet?

Monday, December 15th, 2008

According to a report by Access Hollywood, Tennessee‘s release date has been pushed off from this Friday, December 19th, to a later release, tentatively scheduled for March.

The film has had a couple of festival screenings so far as well as a one-week run at the beginning of December to qualify for Oscar contention, largely in the hopes of getting a nod for co-star Mariah Carey’s “Right to Dream,” listed among five front-runners by the Los Angeles Times:

THE POP STAR

Mariah Carey’s “Right to Dream.” In need of a guitarist for “Right to Dream,” Carey aimed high, going straight to country legend Willie Nelson. Written for ” Tennessee,” in which Carey plays an aspiring singer, “Right to Dream” is restrained elegance, with some light, finger-picked guitar flourishes and a dash of late-night soul. “I was humming different melodies while I was on the set and stuff,” Carey says. “I was just thinking that Willie Nelson would be somebody fabulous to collaborate with. I reached out to him, and we met after one of his concerts.”

Thanks to commenter Jeane for the heads up on the For Your Contention ad from the December 3 Los Angeles Times and h/t to the Mariah Daily Journal for the scan.

Mad Money had its premiere at the Mann Village Theatre in Los Angeles last night and, of course, Adam was there, looking dapper, proud parents and sister by his side (check out the Getty Images gallery for a couple watermarked snaps of the happy family).

While most of the press coverage naturally centered around Adam’s more established co-stars and their more established spouses, Page Six.com treated us to this tidbit:

And the women’s behavior on-carpet matched their attitudes on-set, co-stars said. Adam Rothenberg, who plays Katie’s boyfriend in the movie, told PageSix.com that production was pretty relaxed. “I think I was the only uptight guy there,” he joked, adding that the women “kind of made it a project to loosen me up. I thought I was presumptuous to pal around with them….so they teased me.”
